Helping Kate Get Back on the Road for Her Big Challenge for Change

Every now and then, someone comes through Warwick with a story that’s a little out of the ordinary – and Kate Moran’s journey certainly fits the bill.

Kate set out from Thulimbah, near Stanthorpe in Queensland, with the goal of walking all the way to Darwin as part of her Big Challenge for Change.

Travelling largely unsupported and accompanied by her little dog Frank, Kate embarked on the journey to encourage conversations around depression, inspire people facing their own challenges and show just how much can be achieved by simply starting somewhere and putting one foot in front of the other.

A Small Bump in the Road Near Warwick

Of course, a journey from the Southern Downs to Darwin was never going to be without a few challenges along the way.

When Kate ran into a tyre problem with the wagon carrying her gear, our own Luke from Ryanie for Tyres Warwick was able to head out and lend a hand.

What might normally be a fairly routine tyre job was a little more important this time – that wagon was helping Kate carry what she needed for a journey stretching thousands of kilometres across Australia.

Luke was able to help get the tyres sorted and Kate’s wagon ready to continue the journey north.

What Is Kate’s Big Challenge for Change?

Kate’s walk is about much more than reaching Darwin.

Through the Big Challenge for Change, Kate hopes to encourage greater awareness and understanding around depression and mental health, while inspiring others to make positive changes in their own lives and communities.

Her message is a simple but powerful one: even when you’re facing something difficult, progress can start with one decision and one step.

Kate is also using the journey to raise funds towards her goal of helping children, families and communities overseas through future volunteer work.

A Little Southern Downs Support Along the Way

One of the things we love about living and working in a regional community is seeing people lend a hand when somebody needs it.

For the Ryanie for Tyres team, helping Kate with her tyres was only a small part of a much bigger journey, but we’re glad we could help keep her moving.

Kate also found some local support at the Darling Downs Hotel at Sandy Creek, where she stayed while her tyre issues were being sorted before setting off again.

It’s a great example of the kind of community spirit we’re proud to have here across Warwick, Stanthorpe and the Southern Downs.
